Routine settling in

The past few weeks have been super busy and full of “firsts” in our new home city. Classes continue to go smoothly and we are working hard to remember our some 210 students’ names (that’s 210 for each of us!). Our company has urged us to slowly ease into our lives here. We now see that that urging is very legitimate. It’s one thing to go on a short term trip overseas…it’s another to move overseas. While we are easing in, we have already begun developing friendships here! David has one friend in particular he has hung out with several times now, and I have gotten lunch with several students. I am so enjoying getting to know them more and more. I have found several new friends to run with, have craft nights with, and even a friend to knit with! We are grateful to live on the edge of campus, which means a win-win because we are away from the main busy, loud streets, but only a short walk from class buildings. Our students can walk to our apartment easily. We continue to make this apartment a home! We are going on our team retreat this weekend to a larger city just a few hours away by train. There is an IKEA there and we (mostly Anna) are VERY excited to get some things for our apartment! Like…a place to sit. :) We are itching to have students over but need the necessities around here to do so. We will post some pictures of our new place soon. It does my heart good to make this place homey and welcoming not just for us, but for our students too!

Several of you have asked about the orphanage. We were able to go for the first time three weeks ago and have gone gone every Saturday since! We fell in LOVE! We mostly play with toddlers and older children who have disabilities that keep them in the toddler room. The boys love it when David plays soccer with them…until they become too aggressive and step on one of the babies’ heads (not David…the kids. :) ). I immediately took to a sweet ten month old baby boy with Down Syndrome. He is precious! I have given him the English name Thomas. I loved on him so much last week that he gave me his cold! I’d put up with a cold any day to love on that little guy. There are about twenty children in the room at once. The nannies do a good job with what they have and you can tell that they love on the kids as much as they can. We love our Saturdays with them.

In other news…our nephew, Michael Cohen McCulley, was born on Sunday morning U.S. time! We love him so much already!

We are grateful for your continued petitions and support. You might not know the faces or names of our students- though we will introduce you to a few in the future- but know that our hearts stir for them and we have been given a love for them. As we work with them, please continue to ask for wisdom. There are so many it is incredibly fun and also very overwhelming! Thank you for working with us.
